Bill Buckley's Famous Insult Against Harvard

Fri. July 13, 2012:

People hate the very word Harvard.

U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren -- a "Harvard professor" in Scott Brown's sardonic campaign ads -- is learning this first-hand.

But the famous 1960s conservative Firing Line host William F. Buckley is said to have captured this essence best:

I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.

NEVERTHELESS:  The July/August 2012 issue of Harvard Magazine has two fairly nonpartisan articles worthy of even patriotic Harvard-haters' attention:

1.  Harvard Law professor Lawrence Lessig, "A Radical Fix for the Republic":

Lessig advocates a constitutional overhaul to RESCUE American democracy.

2.  President of the U. of Penn. Amy Gutmann & Harvard political professor Dennis Thompson
